Health Days 2021

World Pharmacists’ Day

Overview:

The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) has marked the 25th September of every year as the World Pharmacists’ Day since 2009. It encouraged all national pharmacists associations that have official relationships with the World Health Organization (WHO) to celebrate the day, with the aim of educating community members about the role of pharmacists in improving and promoting health care. At the 2009 Council meeting of the FIP Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, 25 September was proposed to be the day to celebrate the World Pharmacists’ Day as it coincided with the day FIP was established in 1912.  Celebrating this international day highlights the important role pharmacists play as an integral part of the health care system. It also shed light on their primary role in generally promoting health care, especially during the pandemic when they had to deal with many challenges, and made significant contributions to the pharmaceutical care sector.

Objectives:
  • Stress the fact that pharmacists are still reliable sources of support, help, and reassurance to patients.
  • Enhance the quality of the health services provided to patients through the safe, effective use of treatment products.
  • Highlight the positive integral role of pharmacists as active members of medical teams.
  • Encourage pharmacists to carry out research on pharmaceutical care development.
