Health Days 2023

World Kidney Day

World Kidney Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of kidneys to humans, highlight awareness of preventive behaviours, risk factors, and awareness of how to live with kidney disease for those infected.
  • Raise awareness about the importance of kidneys, and awareness of its association with diabetes, high blood pressure, and chronic kidney disease.
  • Encourage periodic examination of kidneys for all patients with diabetes and high blood pressure.
  • Encourage protective behaviours.
  • Educate all medical professionals about their key role in detecting and reducing risks of developing chronic kidney disease, particularly in high-risk groups.
  • Highlight that transplantation is the best treatment for kidney failure, and organ donation is one of the best life-saving initiatives.
Kidneys are amazingly complex organs that perform many essential tasks to keep us healthy.
The main function of your kidneys is to remove toxins and extra water from your blood, and they also help control your blood pressure, produce red blood cells, and keep your bones healthy.
Kidneys are of the size of your fist, located deep in the abdomen, below the rib cage.
Kidneys control blood flow levels of many minerals and molecules including sodium and potassium, and help control acidity of the blood.
Every day, kidneys carefully control salt and water in your body so that blood pressure stays the same.
