World No Tobacco Day
Introduction:
Every year, on May 31st, WHO celebrates the World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) to raise awareness about the importance of controlling tobacco use in all its forms, its harms that cause diseases and death as well, in addition to the health risks of passive smoking and its impact on the people around smokers. In 2019, WNTD aims to increase awareness about the harmful effects of smoking on lung health.

Facts:
  • Tobacco use adversely affects the lung and remains the single most important risk factor for lung cancer, chronic lung diseases, and tuberculosis.
  • Tobacco kills up to half of its users.
  • Tobacco kills more than 7 million people worldwide each year.
  • Tobacco epidemic is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced.

Official Date:
  • Globally: May 31st, 2019.
  • Locally: Ramadan 26th, 1440H.

Objectives:
  • Raise awareness about the dangers of smoking in all its forms and passive smoking.
  • Raise awareness about the harmful effects of smoking on lung health.
  • Raise awareness about the actual risks of tobacco use that may lead to death, May Allah forbid.
  • Raise awareness about the importance of lung health and public health.
