PTSD Awareness Day

Overview: 
June 27th of every year marks the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Day. On this day, the world aims to raise awareness about the problems associated with PTSD and how they affect the lives of families, by working with partners across the globe to stop these problems from having profound effects on their lives. PTSD is an anxiety disorder that's triggered by disturbing, terrifying or painful events. These events include:
  • Grave road accidents
  • Personal assault (e.g. sexual assault, robbery, etc.)
  • Serious health problems
  • Wars and natural disasters
A person with PTSD will often have flashbacks, nightmares, and uncontrollable thoughts about the event. 

Facts: 
PTSD symptoms:
  • Feelings of isolation, irritability and guilt
  • A person with PTSD can also have problems sleeping, such as insomnia, and find concentrating difficult. 
  • These symptoms are often severe and persistent enough to have a significant impact on the person's day-to-day life.
Objectives:
  • Raise awareness about PTSD and its prevalence. 
  • Explain PTSD treatment methods.
