Health Days 2021

World Autism Awareness Day

Introduction:
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that affects communication and behavior and causes social challenges. There is often nothing about how people with ASD look that sets them apart from other people, but they may communicate, interact, behave, and learn in ways that are different from most other people. The learning, thinking, and problem-solving abilities of people with ASD can range from gifted to severely challenged. Some people with ASD need a lot of help in their daily lives; others need less.

Facts:
  • One in 160 children has an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
  • ASD often appears in early childhood and may continue beyond puberty.
  • Evidence-based psychosocial interventions, such as behavioral treatment can reduce difficulties in communication and social behavior, with a positive impact on well-being and quality of life.

Objectives:
  • Promote awareness about the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and its symptoms.
  • Enhance the role of people with ASD and their acceptance in society.
  • Highlight the need for help and improving the quality of life of the autistic people.
  • Support people with ASD and their families.
