Diabetics must avoid contact with sick people and take preventive measures as follows:
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 40 seconds, especially after coughing, sneezing, or being in a public place.
- If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid touching frequently used surfaces in public places such as elevator buttons and doorknobs. Furthermore, use a tissue to cover your hand or finger if you have to touch something.
- Wash your hands after touching surfaces in public places.
- Avoid touching your face, nose, and eyes.
- Clean and disinfect your home to remove germs, especially frequently touched surfaces (such as: tables, doorknobs, light switches, knobs, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks, and cell phones).
- Avoid crowds, especially in places with poor ventilation.
- Avoid unnecessary travel.
- Take medications and insulin injections at scheduled times and in prescribed doses.
- Monitor your blood sugar level by measuring it at home, and keep it controlled.
