Disease: Preterm Birth (Premature Birth)
Causes:
There are many factors for preterm birth:
- Previous premature delivery.
- Multiple pregnancies.
- Mother with chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
- Mother with infections.
- Pregnancy at a young age is a main risk factor for premature birth.
- Mother lifestyle such as: (Smoking, stress, tension).
- Early separation of the placenta or uterine contractions before end of pregnancy.
Health problems of premature baby:
Most of the preemies health problems are the results of preterm births and prior to full development of their different body organs, a matter which requires medical assistance with devices and drugs to overcome this period, such as:
- Breathing problems.
- Cardiovascular problems.
- Blood problems such as the anemia.
- Poor function of the gastrointestinal system.
Caring for a premature baby:
The premature baby requires care in a NICU where he will be provided with the followings:
- Appropriate warmth to maintain his body temperature.
- Nutrition through solutions and tubes.
- Emergency breathing device.
