World Arthritis Day

​Arthritis means inflammation or swelling of one or more joints. It describes more than 100 conditions that affect the joints, tissues around the joint, and other connective tissues. Specific symptoms vary depending on the type of arthritis, but usually include joint pain and stiffness. Treatment varies according to the severity and type of the condition. World Arthritis Day is celebrated every year on 12th October. 

Facts:
  • The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis. Other common forms include gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. 
  • Arthritis can limit the type of work that can be done or keep you from working at all.
  • It reduces physical activity such as: walking, bicycling, and swimming—decreases arthritis pain and improves function, mood, and quality of life.
  • Maintain a healthy weight. People can reduce their risk of knee osteoarthritis by controlling their weight.
