General Tips for Hajj Pilgrims

The service of pilgrims is great honour and responsibility laid upon all in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for this, the staff of the Media Information and Health Awareness Center at the Ministry of Health is pleased to remind you some important and useful tips for your Hajj which is part and parcel of the Hajj service system in this Holy Land.
  • Be sure to check with your doctor before traveling to get updates, preventive measures and vaccinations required.
  • Be sure to get all the necessary vaccinations, including Meningitis and influenza.
  • Be sure to read brochures and booklets and watch educational films about Hajj, if possible, in the original language before reaching the Kingdom.
  • Be sure to take all your medicines if there are any chronic diseases, such as (diabetes, high blood pressure, liver disease and kidney disease).
  • Pregnant women should consult their doctor before taking this step to prevent any damage that may occur to them or to their unborn child because of the stampede or any other incidents.
  • Be sure to drink a lot of clean water and fluids to avoid dehydration, and be sure to have some packets of rehydration to be used when necessary.
  • Be sure to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, and be sure to use of umbrellas to avoid heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
  • Do not bring any food to the Kingdom; as the Saudi authorities to prevent that from all KSA ports of Entry (land, sea and air). Note that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia provides healthy food and drink and cold Zamzam water.
  • Saudi authorities prohibit the use of gas cylinders so you must avoid using them. It is worth mentioning that some of the pilgrims - Allah guide them – used to smuggle gas cylinders to their tents for cooking which often cause accidents and fires.
  • Beware of crowding to avoid stampedes and Respiratory diseases.
  • Do not hesitate to consult the nearest health center when feeling any kind of pain or uneasiness.
  • Avoid excessive eating as this season for work and worship, and a lot of eating makes the body feel heavy and weak.
  • Reduce reliance on canned food or food that is cooked unhealthy.
  • Try to smoke less or give it up completely if possible.
  • Do not take medicines without prescriptions. Remember what suits others may not suit you, but it may actually hurt you
  • Application of preventive hygiene standards when using the toilets.
  • Cleanliness is an important component for the prevention of diseases; please throw away trash in the waste receptacles. This is because cleanliness is a part of Faith.
  • Pilgrims who use facemasks to prevent disease must change them continuously, because they may became place combines large amounts of dust and dust.
