Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women in Ramadan


Pregnant or breastfeeding women who do not feel well enough to fast during Ramadan, or they are concerned about their health or baby, are advised to consult their doctor and get a general health screening before deciding to fast.

Before Ramadan:
  • Talk to your doctor about the possibility of fasting to ensure that there is no health risk to the mother or the child.
  • Regulate sleep times to fit your schedule during Ramadan.
  • Cut down on caffeine products, such as coffee, tea, etc., gradually before Ramadan to avoid headaches during fasting.
  • If you are a working woman, talk to your manager, to regulate work times during Ramadan and ensure that you take enough rest.
During Ramadan:
  • Make sure to follow up with your doctor periodically throughout the month to ensure that fasting does not affect the child's health.
  • Make sure to eat a varied and healthy diet at various times, including the appropriate nutrients and calories.
  • Make sure to keep the body hydrated by drinking enough fluids, especially water (10) cups, distributed between the Iftar and Suhoor periods.
  • Avoid sweets and other sugary snacks, which are usually eaten after Iftar.
  • Make sure to get enough rest during the day in Ramadan.
  • Avoid walking long distances during the day.
  • Avoid anxiety and stress as much as possible.
  • Make sure to eat the Suhoor meal to provide the body with the necessary energy during the day.
