Prince Sultan Cardiac Center-Najran: 11 Open-Heart Surgeries Done in One Month
05 December 2018

According to Najran Health Affairs, for the first time since its establishment, Prince Sultan Cardiac Center conducted 11 successful open-heart surgeries during a month in 2018, which witnessed an increase in the number of surgeries since its inauguration (3-5 per week).

It pointed out that a cardiac medical team has conducted many surgeries, most notably a very high-risk operation for a 92-year- old patient suffering from chest problems and after due catheterization procedure, he was diagnosed with stenosis in the left main coronary artery (LMCA) and the rest of the coronary arteries, which required immediate surgical intervention.

For the first time ever, beating heart surgery was performed on a patient without using a heart-lung machine. Arteries were implanted and all operations were performed under the supervision of a number of cardiologists, anesthesiologists, intensive care specialists and other specialized technical staff. Thanks Allah, all operations were successful and patients were discharged from the center in a good health, some of them within a record time of 4 days from the operation date, adds the Affairs.
These steps come in line with MOH's efforts to achieve one of its objectives in the National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020, in terms of improving the health care provided before hospitalization and at emergency and ICU departments of main hospitals. Also, this goal is related to one of the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030, in terms of improving the quality of both preventive and therapeutic healthcare services.
