Najran: Citizen Restores Mobility and Sense after Sophisticated Surgery
01 November 2017
By Allah's Grace, a team of neuro-spinal surgeons at King Khaled Hospital – Najran has successfully restored the lower limbs' mobility for a 21-years-old patient. The young man had a horrible traffic accident causing acute spinal damages and nerve trauma; thus, losing his mobility and sense of his lower limbs.

The patient was brought to the hospital after the accident which caused compound fracture of 3 vertebrae; thus leading to paralysis and loss of sense in his lower limbs. Medical and radiological checkups showed that his paralysis was due to a burst fracture of spinal 12 and L 1 vertebrae, with acute spinal pressure and damage. Immediately, the patient had a 3-hour successful emergency surgery. The first weeks after recorded a concrete improvement in his limb's mobility. Then, he went through an intensive course of rehabilitative and physical therapy, whereby he restored his mobility, sense an control over his lower limbs.

Remarkably, the neuro-spinal surgery department of the hospital conducted 160 major and emergency operations last year, which has contributed - by Allah's Grace - to saving patients, ending their sufferings and desperate search for treatment outside the region.

It is noted that the Ministry of Health (MOH) is currently implementing MOH's Performance Program, which aims to boost productivity, performance quality and efficiency of health services in hospitals. The program is in line with the National Transformation Program 2020 towards achieving the Saudi  Vision 2030. The program covers 70 hospitals and features over 40 indicators to measure the performance of seven key therapeutic aspects.
