Saudi Surgeon Saves Premature Baby Girl at King Fahad Central Hospital in Jazan
04 April 2017
The Ministry of Health (MOH) stated that Dr. Mohsen Khardly, an ENT Consultant at King Fahd Central Hospital in Jazan, has conducted two surgeries to a 55-day-old premature baby girl. The first surgery was opening a hole in the roof of the mouth from the end of the nose and the second was an enlargement in the airway at the top of the trachea, after she was diagnosed having Kartagener syndrome with tightness in the trachea. The patient was admitted to the ICU, subjected to the required medical examinations and prepared to the surgical intervention.

It is worth mentioning that this surgery is reckoned one of the rare and critical surgeries, because of the young age of the infant, as well as the scarcity of such disease among children. Thanks to Allah, the surgery has been conducted and crowned with success, and breathing began to return to the baby gradually and continuously, thus she was taken off the ventilator. Then, she was able to eat normally by mouth, and her weight improved from 2 kg to 2.5 kg, in line with the plan, presented by the nutrition section, during her stay in the hospital. The baby has been discharged from the hospital in stable and reassuring health condition, being followed up via the outpatient section.
