04 April 2017
The Ministry of Health (MOH) stated that a medical team at Sabia General Hospital has succeeded in relieving the suffering of a 40-year-old woman with intestinal obstruction, by means of conducting a rare surgery to remove a hairball weighing one kilogram.

“As soon as the woman arrived at the emergency section, she was subjected to medical examination and all laboratory and ultrasound tests, which showed a hairball in her stomach causing obstruction, frequent vomiting and weight loss, the matter which required surgical intervention by the medical staff,” said the Ministry. The patient's health status improved upon the surgery.

It is worth mentioning that this patient has undergone a number of previous surgeries at various hospitals for the same problem over the past ten years, and this surgery is reckoned the sixth one, in which the stomach was opened for removing hairball causing intestinal obstruction.
