01 June 2016
The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by Anti-Smoking Program, organized yesterday, Thursday, at Al-Othaim Mall in Riyadh, awareness events on the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day 2016, which is observed this year under the theme: “Get Ready for Plain Packaging”.

The awareness events comprised chanting shows, theatrical performances, and diverse contests, in addition to an accompanying exhibition, with participation of several bodies, including: the National Commission on Tobacco Control (NCTC) and the Health Programs and Chronic Diseases Control General Department. In addition, Riyadh Health Affairs General Directorate has participated through Anti-Smoking Program, Blood Bank, Coronavirus Awareness Section, and blood pressure and diabetes tests.

The Supervisor-General of the Anti-Smoking Program, Dr. Ali Al-Wadie highlighted that these events aims at activating the World No Tobacco Day and contributing to the protection of the present and future generations, not only against the devastating health consequences of tobacco, but also against social, environmental and economic scourges caused by the use of tobacco or exposure to its smoke.

It is worth mentioning that the events were accompanied by an anti-smoking mobile clinic, with a view to reaching the largest number of smokers at their public spaces, meanwhile breaking the psychological barrier that may prevent the smoker from visiting the fixed clinic.
