Press Release Regarding Dust Storm

Ministry of Health advised all citizens and residents, especially pre-existing breathing-related problems, such as asthma, to avoid direct exposure to dust storms and stay indoors as possible and wear protection medical masks when leaving their homes, since dust particles irritate the respiratory system causing nasal allergies. HE the Minister of Health, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Rabeeah, has directed all health affairs directorates in areas affected by the dust storm to take all needed precautions for citizens and residents' health and safety.

General Directorate of Information and Health Awareness issued a list of Health Precautions, such as avoiding direct exposure to dust storms and outdoor activities as much as possible and follow up weather forecasts through TV, radio or Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PMW) website. Information and Health awareness has also confirmed to keep windows and doors closed, give more attention to personal hygiene and building\house cleaning during this time of year, especially bedrooms, sheets and mattresses, in addition to wearing medical protection mask or damp cloth to reduce exposure to dust particles and exchange them continuously.
People with respiratory conditions, or those who have had surgery recently in the eye or nose, must stay indoors as much as possible, follow doctors directions and use the prescript medication to avoid the impact of dust storms on their health.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health recommended visiting the nearest health center or ER when needed. Drivers should also follow the General Directorate of Traffic safety instructions while driving. Visibility deteriorates very quickly during a dust storm. Therefore, drivers and companions must fasten seat belts, close widows and switch on A.C on a proper temperature if needed.
The Ministry issued a statement stated that all Ministry's 24 hour health facilities and hospitals are ready to receive emergency cases in  areas affected by the dust storm, especially Middle and Eastern Regions. Such hospitals took all needed precautions to help the increasing number of patients with respiratory diseases, especially people with asthma.
