WHO Eastern Mediterranean Committee holds 54th session

In presence of the Director General of the Executive Bureau of the GCC Council of Health Ministries Dr. Tawfeeq Ahmed Khoja and the GCC Ministers of Health, the WHO Regional Committee for Eastern Mediterranean held its 54th session in Cairo, Egypt during the period from 8 to 11/10/1428, being 20 to 23/10/2007.
 
The meeting discussed a number of health issues concerning the region, including AIDS and HIV infection, eradication of poliomyelitis, the freedom from tobacco initiative, work progress towards attaining the developmental goals of the millennium with respect to maternity and childhood health, drug addiction and dependence, boosting patients safety in Eastern Mediterranean, health situation in Lebanon and occupied Palestine, protection against blindness and controllable blurriness of vision in Eastern Mediterranean, prices and availability of medicines in Eastern Mediterranean, marketing foods to children and adolescents in Eastern Mediterranean and its effects on public health, utilization of GIS in drawing health maps in Eastern Mediterranean, infant mortality in Eastern Mediterranean, limits and strategies for attaining the fourth developmental goal of the Millennium, forgotten tropical diseases, new public health problems in Eastern Mediterranean, the growing threatens of viral hemorrhagic fever in Eastern Mediterranean, etc.
