Overview:
The primary cause of death in the world is ischemic heart disease. Heart disease has many risk factors, some of which can be managed, but others cannot:
- Factors that you can control such as smoking, unhealthy diet, obesity, stress, lack of physical activity, poor dental health, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol.
- Factors that you cannot control are such as: age, gender, men are more susceptible to heart disease, family history.
Objectives:
- Raise awareness of heart health, accelerate preventive measures for cardiovascular diseases, detect and manage them.
- Encourage a healthy lifestyle and good eating habits.
- Develop a plan that contributes to quitting smoking; to reduce the risk of heart disease.
- Reduce the prevalence of high blood pressure and diabetes worldwide.
- Raise awareness of the importance of exercising for at least 30 minutes a day; exercise reduces the risk of heart disease.
Facts:
- The primary cause of death globally is heart disease, responsible for 16% of all deaths worldwide, since 2000, making it the largest cause of increased mortality.
- The number of deaths was 2 million in 2000 and rose to 8.9 million in 2019.
