Successful Surgery Ends her Suffering with a 5.57kg Tumor

After 18 years of suffering with abdominal swelling, a 32-year old lady visited the outpatient clinic of Maternity and Children Hospital - Najran complaining of her abdominal swelling since was 14 years olds. Ultrasound and CT scans showed a massive tumor extending from ovaries up top the stomach (23cm). Also, lab tests proved that her tumor markers were normal. The patient was informed of both results. She was also briefed on the suggested treatment through an abdominal exploratory procedure and removal of the tumor. After obtaining her consent, thank Allah she had a successful surgery. The tumor weighed 5.57kg (30x36cm size). She was supervised till her health and spiritual conditions improved. She was discharged, and given an appointment for follow-up with the treatment consultant. The Maternity and Children Hospital - Najran  features a 200-bed capacity. Last year, 3,014 surgeries were done, and 40,783 outpatients were served.
 
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Health (MOH) is currently implementing MOH's Performance Program, which covers 70 main hospitals and aims to boost productivity, performance quality and efficiency of health services in hospitals. The program features over 40 indicators to measure the performance of seven key therapeutic aspects, including emergency, clinics, surgeries, hospitalization, ICU, radiology and labs. The program also aims to develop the skills of health professionals to use the indicators and to identify performance improvement potentials, in compliance with patient safety and quality standards.
