Surgical Intervention to Repair Congenital Heart Deformities of a Girl in Al-Ahsa

​Cardiologists in Al-Ahsa Governorate successfully conducted an urgent surgical intervention to save a girl from congenital deformities in the heart and arteries, in a 3-hour surgery.

Ministry of Health indicated that medical teams at Prince Sultan Cardiac Center affiliated to Al-Ahsa Health Cluster were able, thanks to Allah, to perform a corrective operation for a girl suffering from Down syndrome, congenital deformities, and chronic lung disease, where clinical and radiological examinations conducted for the child confirmed that she needs an urgent surgical intervention for the correction process.

The medical team supervising the case confirmed that the cardiac deformity was detected as an (atrioventricular septal deformity), a severe increase in the pressure of the pulmonary artery, with a deformity in the branches of the aorta, and it required a diagnostic catheter to measure the pressure of the pulmonary artery, and a complete surgical repair of congenital deformities in the heart and arteries. and to ensure the position of the aorta and its branches, after which the child was transferred to the intensive care unit to follow up on her health status by the medical and nursing teams until she is stable and safely discharged from hospital.

It is noteworthy that the Prince Sultan Cardiac Center in Al-Ahsa managed to perform 3,399 cardiac catheterizations from the beginning of this year until the end of last June, while the number of surgical procedures reached 427, and the total number of patients who benefited from the clinics in the center reached 39,157 beneficiaries.
