06 April 2022

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has highlighted the effective role of COVID-19 vaccines and precautions in the Kingdom. Through an awareness infographic published on its Twitter page, MOH has underlined the positive impact of these vaccines and precautions, by Allah’s grace, in reducing severe complications and deaths due to this pandemic.

The infographic underlined that during the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic from April to the end of November 2020, the indicators showed that 267 deaths were recorded for every 100,000 cases, despite the application of precautions at that time. These precautions included wearing a mask, maintaining physical distancing, washing hands, and avoiding handshakes. After the matter changed during the second wave from March to August 2021, while same precautions were applied, in addition to administration of the first dose of vaccines, the death rate decreased to 99 deaths per 100,000 infections. From December 2021 until February 2022, with the continued application of precautionary measures, in addition to immunization with two doses of vaccines and a booster dose, the third wave of the pandemic witnessed a remarkable decrease in deaths (only one case per 100,000 cases).

It is noted that the Kingdom was proactive, with gracious directives and continuous follow-up of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, may Allah protect them; in terms of taking a number of proactive measures and effective decisions, which reflected in reducing the effects of this pandemic. The Kingdom was globally distinguished in dealing with the pandemic with high professionalism; the matter which was commended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
