Over 62,000 Scans Conducted at Heraa General Hospital
11 January 2021

A total of 62,491 diagnostic scans were conducted in 2020 by the Radiology and Medical Imaging Section at Heraa General Hospital in Makkah. The scans were performed at all the sections of X-ray, CT scan, MRI, Ultrasound, Panorama, Osteoporosis, and Breast Imaging.

The Hospital’s Director has noted that the Radiology and Medical Imaging Section conducted 39,584 radiological scans at all X-ray units, 3,205 MRI scans, 10,295 CT scans, 955 Ultrasound scans, as well as 352 mammograms during the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in October and throughout the year.

Within the same framework, the Hospital’s Director has added that the Section was developed and updated with the latest advanced medical equipment in the domain of radiology. To keep up with such development, the medical image archiving system via the electronic radiology system PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) was upgraded in 2020. PACS saves pictures and reports so that doctors can view patients’ pictures and report results in their clinics.

In addition, the upgrade has included increasing the system’s memory capacity to accommodate the largest number of archiving images, as well as adding a program for recording and dosing medical diagnostic radiology for patients. Moreover, development has comprised qualifying and training Saudi cadres to enhance the efficiency and quality of performance and preparing for the health services provided at the Hospital.
