According to Taif Health Affairs, for the third consecutive year, the laboratory and blood bank of King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital have received the accreditation of College of American Pathologists (CAP), thanks to diligent efforts exerted by administration and staff. CAP assessment involves over 4000 quality standards. This significant achievement is in line with MOH's ongoing efforts to improve the overall health system.
College of American Pathologists (CAP) is a medical society serving more than 17,000 physician members and the laboratory community throughout the world. It is the world’s largest association composed exclusively of pathologists certified by the American Board of Pathology, and is widely considered the leader in laboratory quality assurance. This accreditation is a qualitative shift in patient service, as this is the first MOH's laboratory to obtain such an international quality certificate. First obtained in 2015, this year's accreditation stresses the ongoing efforts of the lab administration and staff to secure patient safety processes and policies according to the Kingdom's 2030 Vision, and to obtain CAP laboratory accreditation through providing top standard services to all patients, pathologists and the public.
In the line with the lab's infrastructure development, several key projects have been developed during the past years, including: robotics lab, pneumatic tubes to carry samples to department, in addition to great achievements in local and international quality assurance. Locally, in 2016, the laboratory and blood bank of King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital obtained the first rank among all MOH's labs in "Rekaaz" external quality control sample tests in Endocrinology and Tumor Markers Department. This practice is held annuly by MOH.
The lab also was ranked number one by Blood Coagulation Department, fifth by Bio-Clinical Chemistry, ninth by blood gas tests, and tenth by hematology listed on AABBOTT apparatus.
Notably, the lab and blood bank of King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital - Taif endeavor - through a futuristic quality vision - to obtain Aabb blood bank accreditation and ISO 15189.
