MOH Statement on the News Story of 2 Girls Passed Away Due to H1N1 Virus

In reference to the news story published on some websites and social media, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced that two girls, aged 15 and 39, passed away in Jizan; due to seasonal influenza virus (H1N1), as eight have been recorded at the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center (CRC) over the past two weeks.
 
Furthermore, the MOH highlighted that such seasonal influenza cases recorded in Jazan reflect the general increase in influenza virus activity in the different regions of the Kingdom, the matter which comes as repercussions of the current events in many countries of the world; as influenza virus activity is continuously increasing during winter's season. MOH would like to reassure everyone that the health status does not cause any concern or panic, and the mortality recorded is still quite limited, and some due to complications of other diseases.
 
Within the same vein, MOH would like to underline the importance of seasonal influenza vaccine, which proved its effectiveness and safety. Hence, the Ministry recently launched a vaccination campaign against influenza through health centers, hospitals and shopping centers.
 
Besides, MOH underscored that it closely follows up the situation and applies all precautionary and preventive procedures in dealing with this virus, as well as carrying out the epidemiological surveillance adopted in such cases.
 
It is worth mentioning that MOH has extended sincere condolences to the girls' parents, May Allah, the Almighty, have mercy upon the deceased and make the Paradise their final abode.
