An Omani citizen, Mohammed bin Nasser Al Jardani, expressed his great thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, May Allah protect him, for approving his request in 2006 to separate his conjoined twin daughters (Safa and Marwa). His Excellency Mr. Abdul Aziz Bin Sulaiman Al Turki, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Sultanate of Oman, has also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for his generous directive to perform an urgent open-heart surgery and to provide all the necessary treatment to Mr. Al Jardani after suffering a heart attack upon his arrival to the Kingdom with his daughters.
This came during a dinner party held by Mr. Al Turki in Muscat in honor of His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr. Abdullah Bin AbdulAziz Al Rabeeah, and the delegation accompanying him. The dinner party was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Health of Oman, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi, in addition to a large number of guests, and it was covered by the media.
Moreover, HE Mr. Al Turki said that Mr. Al Jardani insisted on meeting HE Dr. Al Rabeeah along with his twin daughters, during HE’s visit to the Sultanate of Oman, to express his profound thanks to His Excellency and the medical and surgical team that participated in the surgery. Furthermore, HE Dr. Al Rabeeah's visit was to attend the 37th session of the 72nd Conference of the GCC Health Ministers Council, recently held in Muscat.
It is worth mentioning that Mr. Al Jardani has benefited from the the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz’s program to separate conjoined twins, as a successful operation was performed to separate his twin daughters (Safa and Marwa). The operation was the first of its kind in the Middle East, as they were craniopagus conjoined twins, joined at the head. This took place on Saturday 27th October 2007, at King Abdulaziz Medical City, National Guard Health Affairs in Riyadh.
It is universally acknowledged that the Kingdom has a considerable experience of separating conjoined twins; 29 operations from 16 different countries in Asia, Africa and Europe have been operated over the last 20 years.
