With reference to certain web circulations on some diabetic pharmaceuticals, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a medical alert to health care workers, whereby workers are cautioned not to use insulin pens and ampoules for more than one patient. Insulin pens include insulin reservoirs and needles for injection. They normally contain a number of doses which must be used for only one patient since certain viral diseases such as AIDS and hepatitis B are transferable through the blood.
The FDA alert follows occurrence of some viral transferences due to multiple use of insulin pens, including two cases in a 2000 bed hospital.
