03 January 2009
The Minister of Health Dr. Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Mane, the Minister of Education Dr. Abdullah Al-Obeid, and the Minister of Agriculture Dr. Fahad Bal-Ghoneim will inaugurate on Saturday 06/01/1430 the activities of the National Day of Milk Drinking under the emblem: "May Allah bless it for us and give us more of it". The occasion involves community institutions as well as participations from both government and private sectors. Local dairy companies will distribute more than 6 million milk boxes to schools and other government and private bodies.

According to Dr. Al-Mane the idea of the National Day of Milk Drinking is consistent with the overall MOH task of providing health awareness to the community. It stems from the MOH strategy of consolidating community participation in the process of health care provision.

He said in a press statement that the National Day of Milk Drinking coincides with the national campaign for combating osteoporosis, notifying that studies have recorded high rates of osteoporosis among both men and women in the Kingdom.

On his part, the official spokesman Dr. Khalid Al-Marghalani said MOH, through organizing the National Day of Milk Drinking, aims to consolidate individual awareness of the importance of milk drinking in protecting human body against osteoporosis. "Our program involves distributing more than 6 million of milk boxes to schools", he said. A toll free telephone line (8002494444) has been allotted for answering enquiries on the uses of milk and its effects in fighting disease.

Al-Marghalani appreciated the response of milk companies, which indicates their adherence to the concerns of community health and safety.
