Overview:
A healthy marriage aims for compatibility and harmony between couples in terms of health, psychological, and social aspects for protecting the couple and their offspring from infectious diseases and giving birth to healthy children. Accordingly, the Kingdom's wise government has paid attention and keenness to create healthy generations through the healthy marriage program. The program requires both parties to the marriage contract to bring a medical examination certificate before the contract is concluded, provided that this procedure is one of the requirements for signing the marriage contract, while the decision is up to both parties to consummate the marriage.
A Premarital screening is performed for those approaching marriage to determine the presence of some hereditary blood diseases (sickle cell anemia and thalassemia), some infectious diseases (hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and acquired immunodeficiency (AIDS)), for the purpose of giving medical advice about the extent of the possibility of transmitting these diseases to the other party or children in the future, and providing options and alternatives in order to help them plan for a healthy family.
