Gulf Cancer Awareness Week


Overview:
The Gulf Health Council launched Gulf Cancer Awareness Week from 1-7 February to raise awareness of cancer, and to support cancer patients and their families.

Objectives:
  • Increasing awareness of early detection of cancerous tumors
  • Early detection increases the chance of recovery.
Facts:
The Gulf Health Council explained that:
  • Conducting a preventive CT scan after the age of 50 to 80 years if the person is a heavy smoker, is considered one of the ways to prevent lung cancer. 
  • Performing mammography helps in the early diagnosis of breast cancer, which is considered the most common type among Gulf women and increases the recovery rate by approximately 98%.
  • Colorectal cancer is the most common among men in the Gulf, and periodic screening of people most at risk of contracting it is considered one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of contracting it.
