Health Days 2021

Bladder Cancer Awareness Month

Overview:
Bladder cancer starts when cells that make up the urinary bladder start to grow out of control. As more cancer cells develop, they can form a tumor and, with time, spread to deeper layers of the bladder. When cancer grows into the deeper layers of the bladder wall, they become more likely to spread and are harder to treat. It can also grow in the internal layers of the kidneys, ureters, and urethra. Similar cancers can occur in these areas, but they generally happen less frequently.

Facts:
  • 550,000 new cases of bladder cancer are diagnosed, and approximately 200.000 deaths occurred in 2019.
  • Bladder Cancer is the 10th most common type of cancer globally.
  • About 9 out of 10 people with this cancer are over the age of 55.
Objectives:
  • Raise awareness about bladder cancer among society members.
  • Help bladder cancer patients get the support and treatment they need.
Official date:
  • Globally: 1 - 30 May 2021
